Canary Jones

A lot of fixes and restructuring in this update, but there some cool new features! Let's start with the fixes.

Bug Fixes

  • Now you can delete posts.
  • Now you can edit posts.
  • Changed the Navigation Bar Categories
  • Fixed article body images so they don't overflow
  • Fixed the Edit and Delete Entries page (Now it scrolls!).
  • and a couple more fixes...

New URL Structure

Now canaryjones.com has better looking URLs for front-end users. Before this update, news article links used to look like this: canaryjones.com/view.php?pid=12. Now links have a more defined structure for front-end users to know what they are going to. The new structure goes as follows:
canaryjones.com/type/category/article-link
The same goes for all types of pages like canaryjones.com/library and canaryjones.com/news/earnings. You can also customize the article links when posting in case you want to them to be simpler then the article title.

That's right! Every picture on each article page now has click to enlarge functionality! Try it out right here. Go ahead click it.

Also, you can add images to the body of articles a lot easier now. Just upload additional images to the gallery and either click and drag them in (this is a little experimental still) or copy the image link from the gallery and paste it into the "Add image Dialog" in the text editor.

New Secure File Structure

Last update we made the site use modular elements to create pages. Now those elements are securely tucked away in a new hierarchy on the server. This will increase speed, allow access to site-wide functions, and decrease the risk of dead-links and hacks. With this structure in place, the website runs like an application, whereas every time you enter a new page, the website knows where it is (URL and Page-wise) and reinitializes its modular elements.

A few minor things

Now if you are logged in and you have administrative access, you can choose to edit or delete articles right from the article page. Now you can post to Chart Watch and Investing, but those pages are not set-up yet. There were a lot of strange placement errors going on so now the site is always checking for errors and running javascript functions to be sure everything is setup correctly. Also, this site is getting a lot better at catching errors so nothing comes out weird on the front-end of the site. There are still a few pages, like the register page, that don't work 100% properly, but they are easy fixes.
