Finishing up last weeks styles and layouts
This update expanded on the features added in last week’s update by fixing minor bugs and completing the page feeds across the whole site. Now, the site works with more ease and is programmed to make sure that contributors do not make mistakes.
Featured PostsAs mentioned in last week’s update, the first panel of articles on the home page is a group of featured posts. Now, this section will only show posts that are marked as featured in the admin dashboard. These posts can be reordered in any way you want, but it will only display the top 5 posts on the front page. To add a post to featured posts: login, go to the admin dashboard via the profile page, and click on “All posts.” This page will display a list of all posts on the website. Here, you can change the date, edit, view, delete, and feature posts. When the feature button is clicked, that post will be added to the top of the featured post list. Click and drag any of the columns in the featured post list at the top to reorder them. The featured posts list automatically saves every time the order is changed or a post is added.
New SlideshowThe previous slide show functionality had a lot of potential, but fell short when it came to execution. A new slideshow has been added to the home page that is much simpler and more light-weight then the previous. Now, slides can be easily added, removed and reordered in the admin dashboard. Also, the new image gallery is compatible with the slide show input. Click on “Add Image from Gallery” to instantly add and image from the image gallery without having to copy and paste a link. Just like the featured posts list, slides can be clicked and dragged to be reordered in the admin dashboard. Slides in the slideshow also have the option of linking to another page when they are clicked on.
Completed FeedsEvery page now features an upper and lower content feed. In between these feeds is prime real estate for advertisements and other content as well as linking users to another section of the site. The upper feeds will show the most recent content, and the lower feeds show categorical content. As of right now, all feeds function the same way, but in the future they can all be different from each other. The idea is here is that there will always be a sidebar present at the top of the page and full width content at the bottom. The chart watch section is now underway as well. The chart watch landing page is currently a work in progress, but the Watchlist page is almost complete. When you add a ticker to the watchlist in the admin dashboard, the full-featured chart will appear on the CJ Watchlist page.

Editable Page PartsEvery page features three sections: pre-content, main-content, and post-content. A feature has been added to the admin dashboard that allows admins to add custom content to the pre content section of each page. This can be an introduction to the page, an image, a link, embedded HTML, etc. This section is a full width section that sits on top of every feed, and is completely optional. Every page has the ability to added content to the top but it is not required. With this featured added, it is now possible to edit the content of the about page sections. To access this feature go to the admin dashboard and click on the “Edit Page Parts” tab. Use the dropdown menu to select a page and edit it’s content in the text editor below.
Bug Fixes- Fixed sortable table position bugs - Position/Order of items in sortable tables were not saving properly and were not updating properly when a new item was added.
- Fixed double posting bug - Items were being added twice to the featured posts table and watch list table.
- Fixed article captions on the article view pages.
- Added security checks to gallery, post, and dashboard loaders.
- Added a prevention measurement to deleting images that makes sure you do not delete an image that is the main image of an article.
- Fixed the open gallery button on the sidebar of the posting pages - was not opening the gallery.
- Updated the navbar links for the new pages.
